DAY Tracklist and Highlights
I Would
Alaina Stacey sets the pace for DAY with the opening track I Would, featuring eclectic sounds against a melancholic backdrop. The drum and bass combine for a funky, foot-stomping beat. The track is further complemented by surreal guitar tones that add a touch of sadness to the ambiance. Stacey pours her heart out, reflecting on regrets, lost love, and past choices.
If I could take our love and remake it
Take your heart and unbreak it
I can’t… but if I could… I would
Break Your Heart
A standout track and personal favorite, Break Your Heart, features a bouncy rhythm and infectious melody. Stacey’s lyrics are both mischievous and sultry, conveying her inability to resist falling for someone despite knowing it will lead to heartbreak. With the song’s clever and dynamic arrangement, it’s destined for Top 40 greatness.
Never Mine
Never Mine presents a haunting acoustic fever dream, with Stacey’s smooth and subtle vocals weaving a somber tale of realization. The chorus, floating in and out of falsetto, hints that a relationship may be doomed before it even starts.
Oh Henry
In Oh Henry, a groovy, prominent bassline sets the stage for Stacey’s plea to a long-lost love. The song’s infectious melody is sure to have you singing along.
Liar
By the time we reach Liar, it becomes evident that this poor girl has love life issues. Accompanied by an acoustic piano and lush background vocals, the song poignantly details her acceptance of a love that has unequivocally faded.
Snowing in Nashville
Snowing in Nashville is a bittersweet reflection on regret, with crashing cymbals creating an atmospheric backdrop. Stacey contemplates the consequences of her choices, reminiscing about trading Chicago for Nashville. Brilliantly written and laden with metaphors, is the cold snow just a representation of her feelings, a reminder of lost love, or possibly punishment from her choices?
Over You
After six songs about heartbreak, the EP concludes with Over You, a fitting track to bookend the theme. DAY ends with a message of empowerment… well… sort of… maybe partly? Although it wont be today, Stacey vows to eventually “get over you.” The drum rhythm is lively and contagious, accented by a palm-muted guitar; forcing you to move and sway with the vibe. The track is the perfect backdrop for Stacey to show off her vocal runs as it flows effortlessly in and out of the chorus.
Final Thoughts
Alaina Stacey’s DAY outshines the sun.
